climb against the odds, june 1998 gains new sponsors with skywalker sound and
the north face; documentary and benefit cd/soundtrack gaining support in the

    san francisco--(business wire)--march 2, 1998--the breast cancer  fund, a
national non-profit organization based in san francisco,  announced earlier
this year its second historic mountain climbing  expedition of alaska's mt.
mckinley in june 1998 to raise awareness  and funding for breast cancer.  the
expedition is called climb  against the odds(tm) and involves two teams of
women, breast cancer  survivors and disease free young women from princeton
university who  will be climbing to show support for a future free of breast

    while the team begins its climb a group of survivors and supporters,
members of the bike against the odds team, will begin a 150 mile bike ride to
show their support for the fight to end the breast cancer  epidemic.

    a one-hour documentary on the climb is already in pre-production and is
being produced by michelson-carlson productions offered under  the breast
cancer fund's "tbcf presents" label.  in addition,  discussions are currently
underway with major label artists for an  accompanying benefit soundtrack for
which multiple grammy-winning  songwriter dianne warren has offered to donate
the song "love can  move mountains" as the theme for the documentary.  the
indigo girls  sony entertainment record of emily saliers' song "everything in
its  own time", from the grammy nominated album shaming of the sun will  also
be included in the soundtrack.  "it's great to think our songs  can help make
a difference," said emily saliers.  "this is very  important work and we will
do all we can to help out," said amy ray  of the indigo girls.  the cd is
planned for national distribution.

    skywalker sound, a division of lucas digital ltd, llc has agreed to
donate all facilities necessary for audio post-production including
editing, mixing, and music recording for both underscore and a  planned
soundtrack release.

    advertising agency foote, cone, and belding will be providing the  design
work for collateral and promotional materials and the bailey  group has
created and donated an ad to be placed in sports  illustrated magazine.
eiler communications will continue to donate  pro bono pr as media
coordinator assisted by publicity and special  projects staff at warner bros.

    outdoor clothing company the north face has agreed to supply all of  the
gear for the climbers and will create promotions within its  outlets on an
ongoing basis.  mountain travel sobek, the adventure  travel company is
providing satellite phones for the climb which will allow the group to
broadcast photos and progress on the climbers on a daily basis through
traditional news outlets as well as a planned-for web site.

    climb against the odds is part of a step ahead, a nationwide series  of
public awareness and fundraising activities that the breast cancer fund
launched in october 1995 to build upon the momentum created by  expedition
aconcagua.  a step ahead programs invite breast cancer  survivors and those
who support them to become involved in a variety  of adventure-based
experiences that encourage group support, healing  and physical challenge as
a way to fight the disease.

    proceeds from climb against the odds raised from sponsorships and
donations will be distributed by the breast cancer fund to projects  around
the country that target the following areas:

    --investigation into the causes of breast cancer, especially
environmental contributors;      --development of novel, less toxic methods
of treatment;     --effective outreach to health professionals, well women
and breast cancer survivors, especially the medically under-served;
     --the integration of psycho-social support and other complimentary
therapies into the treatment of those with breast cancer;      --development
of better detection technology to replace mammography

    the breast cancer fund was founded in 1992 to raise awareness and
funding for innovative and cutting-edge projects in research,  education,
patient support and advocacy.  strategic placement of seed funding made to
projects that attempt to fill the wide gaps of  knowledge concerning the
disease, especially to innovative programs  that are not being supported by
more traditional sources of funding. in its five years, the fund has
attracted more than 50,000 supporters nationwide and has given almost $3
